About me
I consider myself an amateur, learning as I go.
My passion for audio started with a Ford Probe. My sister had been in an accident that damaged the rear passenger side of the car. Insurance fixed the body, but no one noticed the rear right speaker had been crushed. I later bought the car from my parents and discovered the dead speaker.
I picked up a pair of 6x9s from Canadian Tire and installed them in the rear hatch. That led to my first subwoofer enclosure — particle board, a circular saw, a jig saw, and drywall screws. Inside it was an 8-ohm home-audio sub from RadioShack, an inductor to roll off the mids and highs, and a cheap 2-channel Canadian Tire amp bridged to power it. It wasn't pretty, but it worked, and I was hooked.
As a teenager I ran the sound board at a local church and dabbled in recording music. Over the last 30 years I've been building audio systems on and off — a long, slow learning process where I usually pick up something new on every project.
These days I only build for people I know, or friends-of-friends. I rarely charge for the work. If anything, I'll ask them to cover a tool or some piece of gear I've been wanting — that's payment enough.
