About this build
Old Bessy is my 1996 GMC Sierra and she is a long work in progress. She was my first truck, and I bought her in 2001. Shortly after I purchased her I bought a prebuilt enclosure from a stereo shop in Edmonton and put two Alpine S10 subs in it. I powered it with an 800-watt monoblock amp I bought from Sound Obsessions. I purchased a set of Focal component speakers for my front doors and a set of Clarion coaxials for the rear. The Focals were powered by a 200-watt Clarion amp. In the gallery is the next iteration of Old Bessy's stereo. I was on a budget so I had to make a lot of sacrifices and reuse a lot of cables and wiring. I bought a Rockford Fosgate DSP, a Rockville 4-channel amp, DS18 6.5" woofers for more midbass, and an Alpine Type R 10" sub. I also upgraded the power wiring to 1/0 AWG for both power and ground. This was my first attempt at using fiberglass to build door panels and a subwoofer enclosure. I cut the prebuilt sub enclosure in half and extended the face with fiberglass to increase the enclosure volume and give the sub room to breathe. Before assembly, one of my Focal tweeters somehow stuck to the bottom of a speaker magnet with something between them and destroyed the tweeter. I bought a set of Hertz component speakers to replace them. I set the crossovers in the DSP and tuned the stereo using a Dayton Audio iMM-6 measurement microphone, free RTA software on my laptop, and a pink noise generator on my phone. Sometime down the road the Rockville amp shit the bed because they are low budget trash. I bought a 400-watt 4-channel Kicker amp to replace it. I was pretty happy with the result, but it's an ongoing project and remains unfinished to this day.
